July 9.
Zeke packed up and took off before me again. He’s pretty fast in the morning. I lingered a bit enjoying the views from our campsite. The hike back to Harts Pass was so beautiful. It was interesting seeing all the stuff I’d gone past on my way to the terminus but from another direction. Gave me a different perspective on it all. Makes a yo-yo hike seem so appealing. Get to see it all twice from different points of view.

Made it back to Harts Pass pretty early. Planned to go further but got stuck in the vortex at Broken Toe’s place aka his sweet custom van. The offer of fire roasted sweet potatoes and corn was too much. There were a lot of other hikers there as well. Zeke had gotten there earlier and managed to avoid the pull of the vortex. We talked about hiking another few miles to camp but I decided to stay since it was supposed to rain again and also there was food. Even though I haven’t hiked much I’m starting to feel the beginnings of the hiker hunger. Might just be my regular hunger.

Stayed the night and talked to the other hikers, mostly section hikers planning on hiking to Cascade Locks or to Ashland. It was great spending the night geeking out about gear, watching a shakedown, and being with other people who were in the same place.
