July 11.
Twig and Taylor were gone by the time I set off. Caught up to them at a log bridge at lunch. Talked with them for a bit in the shade. Twig had an umbrella which I initially was pointless but was jealous of after hiking the heat.

Ended up hiking with them for the rest of the day. It was hot. So hot. The whole day was the longest downhill session in Washington and it hurt. Probably the toughest day yet. Top of right foot started hurting and got a hot spot on the bottom of my foot. Hiking with others helped especially since they were both on the same page of feeling like shit because of the heat and downhills.

We made it to high bridge and caught the last shuttle to Stehekin, a beautiful lakeside town along Washington’s largest natural lake. It’s a beautiful but remote place, accessible only by ferry, seaplane, or trail.

Passed by the resort which seemed nice. The Stehekin river was also gorgeous, long winding and flowing. spent the night at Stehekin at the lakeside campground with the other thru hikers. Caught up to Zeke and met two other sobos named Skybird and Lucas. No wifi but managed to draft some emails and posts. Had some fries and cold mush for dinner at the little restaurant in town. The town only get supplies once a week and we happened to be there on the day before they got them so the restaurant was pretty bare. The server literally referred to the salad option as a “sad salad”. Still, this place is gorgeous and it’s fucking great to sit in the shade and watch the sun go down after a long day.
