Day 7: Trump Tower to Suiattle River. 26 miles.

July 13.

Another very long day. Planned to only do 22 to Miners creek but realized the 4 after that point were flat (ish) and doing them today would mean a shorter day tomorrow. Maybe not the best idea. Started off in a valley forest on a gradual uphill. At one point I heard something that sound like a tree falling or a rock slide. This was shortly followed by 2 fighter jets zooming right over head. It was strange being in this valley forest in the middle of nowhere and hearing so much technology flying what felt like inches overhead. The climb out of the valley was hot but it opened up into a beautiful mountain range.

Heading up we hit some snow and had a few sketchy sections but nothing dangerous. We could see all the snow melt on the trail from this heatwave and hope it means easier passes up ahead.

The GPS on my phone was not working well in the valley. Zeke took a nap on the trail and I almost tripped over him. We also hit the 100 mile sobo marker. 100 miles down feels like such a big milestone. Finally feel like I’m actually hikikg the Pacific Crest Trail.

We made it up to a vista point where we could see a beautiful mountain range and see where the rock slides had knocked down trees and where they were growing back. In the distance we saw Glacier Peak and saw the glaciers on it. It was an amazing sight and it was somewhat mind blowing to think that we’d be on the other side of it the next day. How far we go.

Lucas was at Miners camp though he ended up coming with us to the river. Caught up to Twig and talked to her a bit before pain walking the last two miles to the river. Bushwhacked into our campsite.

My feet got wet and muddy during the hike and the leukotape didn’t help. Got two bad hot spots on the bottoms of my feet made worse by the descent down to camp. Hoping to dry them out, clean, and retape but we’ll see if that works.

I wanted to dip my feet in the river but it’s moving to quickly and with such CFF (cubic force per feet, new term from Taylor) that it was probably not safe.

I slipped on a log and fell right on my side but thankfully didn’t break or hurt anything. What a stupid way to get hurt if I had.

Tomorrow is an easy day to Mica Lake. The pictures I’ve seen and the guthook description make it look gorgeous and I’m excited to spend the afternoon there. It seems everyone will end up there tomorrow so we might have a little rager.

I’m tired and gross and my feet hurt and my legs are sore and I can’t wait to get up and do it all again tomorrow.
