Day 27: Portland to Cascade Locks. 0 miles.

Post-hike note: didn’t take any pictures this day either wah

August 2.

Inadvertently took another zero. Bah.

TL;DR I took too long going to REI and the post office and getting food and missed the last bus to Cascade Locks. I was able to get a ride with Sarah though who was going hiking with her friend near there. Carried out a box of Voodoo Donuts and gave them to hikers. Naps and Frank had made it to Cascade Locks and I met them at the hot dog place. I told Naps I’d been there before and told her about my pillow and she said it was there! Next to the fucking picnic table! I went to the campground and sure enough it was there! Deflated and dirty but there. I either entirely missed it being there when I looked which I don’t think I did or someone found it, deflated it, and stuck it on the table so it wouldn’t fly away. Either way I was so fucking happy to have my pillow back especially since I forgot to buy one at REI. The trail provides.

I ended up staying at the campground instead of heading out since I was either going to only do 2 miles or have to camp in a burn area which I really didn’t want to have to do. There were a bunch of nobos there including 3 German women, a couple and a single woman, who had started hiking on the same day but then hadn’t seen each other since mile 5. The trail is so small.

Also talked to Naps a bunch. Learned more about her and how the rest of her hike with Frank was going. I’m really impressed by what good care she takes of him. She’s basing her entire hike around him, ensuring that he gets all the rest and food he needs, even if it means carrying all his stuff. She’s awesome but unfortunately she was zeroing in Cascade Locks and I was moving on so odds are I won’t see her again for a bit. It turns out I already followed her on Instagram though and can message her through there so we’ll have some contact. I do wish I was a day behind though so I could hike with her and Spatz and Twig and Skybird who are also a day behind. Salty, Potter, BK, and Taylor also took off today and are now 1 day ahead of me which sucks. I’m the middle of the two groups I was hiking with and so have to hike solo again. At least I’ll have all the nobos.

The herd is coming.
