August 8.
Ran down the hill to the road before Big Lake. I could have hitched from there to Bend but I sent a box to Big Lake where I read they had veg food for hikers.

The hike wasn’t too bad. Mostly hiking through burn areas and a little lava rocks. It was early but already getting warm. I stopped at a little gross lake to get water and eat breakfast. On the way to the camp I got passed by a group of nobros who asked me if there were any more lava rocks the way I came. I told them no and they were very happy about that. So I have lava rocks to look forward to. I also saw a 2000 mile marker. I flipped it off.

I could have taken a shortcut to Big Lake but I decided to go around because I’m dumb and a purist. It ended up adding another mile or two to my hike. What’s another mile at this point

Made it to Big Lake Youth Camp which is an incredibly hiker friendly camp run by 7th day Adventists. It’s a Christian camp which is kinda wierd especially since there’s a bunch of kids running around randomly breaking out into prayers or chants but overall it’s a very nice place.

Checked in and got directed to a little cabin specifically for hikers. It was a super nice little cabin for hikers. It had two bathrooms with showers, laundry, resupply, wifi, and lots of seats and outlets. Got in and there were a ton of nobos.

BK was there too. He had camped a few miles from the camp and made it in time for breakfast. I got there an hour or two before lunch which was veggie dogs with fries and baby carrots.
Did laundry, showered got my ressuply, and hung out with the other hikers in the hut, enjoying the air conditioning and not having to hike in 90 degree weather.
Patch, Pigeon, Poker Face, Full Moon, and Jack the Ripper showed up. Another sobo named Tig showed up too. He was the one who had a thing with sassafras and had in his words, ‘voted her off the island”. The Kid and I talked afterwards and joked about how it just seemed like high school bullshit. He would know having literally just finished high school a few weeks earlier.
Did laundry and got food. Dinner was in the campground cafe. It was noodles with a veggie stir fry and spring rolls and I was so stoked it was all vegan. Got to eat with some of the other sobos and that was cool.
A bunch of nobos showed up including another vegan hiker. Didn’t talk much to them tho. Nobos seem to all do their own thing and are kinda shitty to sobos. Lots of pretensions and condescending tones because we haven’t hiked as long as them. Fuck em.
We’re not allowed to camp on the camp property itself but there’s a beach a little ways away where everyone set up. A bunch of us are camping on the sand. There’s so many nobos here and so many are just getting high. I tried to find my own spot but couldn’t so I’m stuck next to them. I think a lot of them are sticking around tomorrow for breakfast which makes me glad I’m not.
I looked up the weather and it’s supposed to be over 90 tomorrow and this is the section across the lava rock fields. Decided to try to get up early to get through it quickly.
The views are nice here at least.
